Friday Discombobulation.

August 15, 2008

The last day or so, I’ve been feeling like I am just on the brink of actually getting sick. I blame it on the matches. In any case, I took cold medicine before bed last night, and went to sleep at 10:30. I still overslept by 45 minutes this morning. As a result, my head is in a total fog. I couldn’t even tell you how I managed to shower and get to work. I think I drove here…

So, because I’m pretty much incapable of putting together one, complete, coherent blog today, you get this instead. Randomness. I apologize in advance.

1. New favorite movie line, from Benny and Joon.

Joon: “[Raisins] used to be fat and juicy and now they’re twisted. They had their lives stolen. Well, they taste sweet, but really they’re just humiliated grapes.”

(This in no way reflects my feelings toward raisins. My personal favorite uses include oatmeal raisin cookies, Cream of Wheat with brown sugar and raisins, and raisin bread/cinnamon raisin bagels.)

2. I took a six-minute shower today. How I managed to do that, I’ll never know, but I even remembered to shave my armpits.

3. If you’ve never had one of these, you’re seriously missing out. Who needs to pay $15.00 for gourmet chocolate, when you can get one of these ginormous bars for $1.00 at Walmart?

4. Medical billing is really, really boring. I’m glad my bosses liked it enough to start their own business, but I gotta say, it’s not exactly a rewarding profession in my book. Right now I’m working on a 3rd appeal to send to an insurance company to try to convince them to pay this particular claim. *Yawn.*

5. I’m planning a solo, coastal drive tomorrow. LOTS of amazing scenery, lots of pictures, lots of good music (which reminds me, I need to reload my iPod tonight) and perhaps some fresh local fruit along the way. Cherries, anyone!?

6. Recently I’ve been reading political blogs and websites like my life depends on it. The greed, dishonesty, and ignorance of some people amazes me.

7. I decided the other day that I need to just NEVER buy myself trail mix. The only kind of trail mix I like is the kind with peanuts, almonds, raisins, and M&Ms. The problem? I pick out the M&M’s. I could have just saved myself $5.00 and simply bought a bag of M&Ms, but somehow I justify it as being “healthier” when it contains nuts and fruit. Yeah right.

8. I still need to write my blog about the negative side of birth control pills and how it ties in with abortion. Must do that soon…

9. This is awesome. I used to watch Julia Child when I was really, really young (we’re talking elementary school here). She is the reason I became hooked on cooking shows. How excited was I when they dedicated an entire channel to cooking!? But, I digress - I want to be a spy when I grow up!!!

10. Is August SERIOUSLY half over already???!

***EDIT***

11. BAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA…*ahem* sorry. This made me laugh.

That is all.

  1. I don’t believe I’ve ever taken a 6-minute shower in my entire life. How is that even possible??

That makes me sad about raisins. Elton John should rewrite “Candle in the Wind” for them.

  2. Benny and Joon is a great movie! I forgot about that line but it always cracked me up…and made me feel sort of sorry for raisins/humiliated grapes. Blarrgh. Driving sounds icky because I just got back from a three day trek back and forth across the state for my job–but cherries sound delicious. I heard about Julia Child, too! It makes me want to be a spy. Well, not really because I’d always get the giggles and might mean death or imprisonment.

  3. Kev :: I have no idea how I managed a 6 minute shower, I really don’t. But I came out clean with shaved armpits, so somehow I did it.

Elton John should rewrite a lot of songs…and get rid of that dangly earring. Seriously, I understand it’s a “gay” thing to do (literally), at least it was in the 80’s…but one dangly earring on a guy has got to be one of the most unattractive things, ever. If a guy HAS to have earrings, have one in both ears, and have small ones that don’t draw a ton of attention.

Erin :: I know, isn’t it??? I love the movie, I just re-watched it yesterday…I love driving when it’s for non-work purposes! This drive is going to be great, too, along the ocean, and the weather is supposed to be perfect…I am glad to hear you love cherries, I’ve had several people tell me they HATE them - my boss just gave me a bag of fresh cherries last week, too, because she discovered she didn’t like them. That’s one of the best things you can buy around here - fresh, local cherries!…Did you ever read Harriet the Spy????

  4. “It’s a shame about raisins … ” I love Benny and Joon, such a sweet movie!

Enjoy your drive tomorrow! It sounds lovely.

  5. Jay :: I agree, very sweet….and thanks! I’ll have pictures uploaded after I get back. LOVE the Pacific coast…

  6. I KNEW there was something “spooky” about Julia Child!!! OSS agent, for sure! Kill you with a spatula 16 different ways. Wow.

And I heard on Radio Moscow a few years ago, the announcer was talking about “the Hitlerite devils” in Germany like WW2 was still going on. It was a really trippy thing to hear that.

  7. That article about former OSS operatives was great, and is related to what my wife and I have been doing with our evenings the last few weeks. No, we’re not OSS (we’re called CIA now, silly), but we have been catching up on Alias, which we never saw in its original run. If anyone responds with a show spoiler, I will personally unplug the internet forever - and then what will you do for a love life? Huh, punk?!

  8. Marvin :: Hahaha…spatula, knife…same difference. But heck yes, wouldn’t you love to sit down with her now and talk to her about it, I bet she has great stories!!

Steve :: Alias is one show I never could get into…so, no show spoilers from me! So don’t unplug my internet, ‘k? My love life thanks you. ;)

  9. I love Benny and Joon!

And how you managed to shave your armpits during a 6 minute shower is beyond me!

  10. I didn’t expect to enjoy it. But now that I’m almost done with season 2, I’m glad I stuck around. It’s one of those shows you essentially have to watch start to finish without missing any episodes: DVD is your friend.

I also didn’t hold out any hope for Lost, expecting it to be a live-action Survivor (which I despise), but I was wrong and it’s now my favorite show. In fact, it was because Lost’s creator (J.J. Abrams) was the one who created Alias that I gave in and started watching Alias.

  11. Brittany :: I have no idea, either. It’s all a blur, I’m amazed I didn’t shred my armpits with the razor in my half asleep, stupefied state! That’ll teach me to use my snooze instead of actually just turning OFF my alarm…

Steve :: I don’t think I’d mind trying Lost again, but like you said - you miss more than one episode, and you have no clue what’s going on. I watched the first few episodes of season 1 when it FIRST came out on t.v, but then I missed several in a row…and it was hopeless. But, I wasn’t hooked enough that I had to run out and rent them when they came out on DVD. I might have to try again with that show…but lately I’ve been too obsessed with renting past seasons of The Office, haha.

  12. No, I never read Harriet the Spy–I don’t know why. I think I’ve always wanted to be Indiana Jones because when I was in 4th grade I wanted to be an archaeologist and in 6th grade I wanted to be a secret agent in the CIA or something.

  13. Erin :: Hmmmm I never got into Indiana Jones…(I know, I know…people think I’m nuts…) but if you’re ever bored and in the mood for a really fast read (a.k.a. books written for like, 6th graders) check out Harriet the Spy and The Long Secret (the sequel). Cute stuff!

  14. Ok. I am lacking the ability to read entire articles here but was Julia Child a SPY? LOL…

HOW did you manage a six-minute shower?? I can’t even shave one leg in six minutes. (It has to do with my not balancing myself correctly on one, soapy foot.) You are my showering hero. lol

  15. Corrina :: Yeah!!! She was a member of the OSS - basically like the CIA, back in the day. Awesome, right!!?

I don’t really quite know how I managed a 6 minute shower, I really don’t remember it, haha. I will say this, though - I have the art of shaving my legs down to a 2 minutes-or-less act. For real. (Although I did forego the legs in said 6 minute shower!)

  16. I won a 4.5-oz bag of M&Ms recently, so if you need any . . .

And thanks for reminding me how good those Symphony bars are! Almost as good as Caramellows!

  17. JD :: M&M’s? SWEET! (Literally…) How did you win them?

I have never had a Caramellow but if they are BETTER than Symphony bars…methinks I should try it/them.
